Wales and West Utilities. Usk Gas Pipe Investment. ROAD CLOSURES

Message from Wales & West Utilities

Usk gas pipe investment  We’re investing more than £800,000 to upgrade the gas network in the Bridge Street area of Usk so we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in your area and to make sure you and your family are safe and warm for generations to come. To keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we work Bridge Street and Castle Parade will be closed from February 2018 to April 2018 between the junction of Castle Street and New Market Street. Once our work on Bridge Street is finished we will be using rolling two way traffic lights on A472 between Little Mill and Usk. We know our work can be disruptive, so we’ve worked closely with Monmouthshire County Council to keep disruption to the local community, and to local road users, to a minimum.  We’re holding an information event in the community so people can come and find out more about our work. Members of our Team will be on hand to answer any questions people may have. The event will be held on: Tuesday 12th December 2017 between 1:00pm and 7:00pmat The Three Salmons Hotel, Bridge Street, Usk, NP15 1RY. We’ll also stay in touch throughout the project keeping you updated on our progress. This essential gas pipe investment work is part of our multi-million-pound 30 year gas pipe investment programme across Wales and the south west of England. Old metal gas pipes within 30 metres of buildings are being upgraded to new, long lasting plastic ones. We are spending £1.4 million on this programme every week to keep the gas flowing and make sure your gas network is fit for the future. I hope this letter gives you the information you need on our work, but if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on 0800 912 2999 or emailenquiries@wwutilities.co.uk. Alternatively, you can contact us on Twitter @wwutilities or Facebook.com/wwutilities. I appreciate this work may, at times, be inconvenient, but it really is essential to make sure that we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in your area and you and your family are safe and warm for generations to come.

Yours sincerely Francis Kirk
Programme Controller

Usk to Little Mill Gas Improvement ProjectThere will be a public information meeting from 1:00pm until 7:00pm on Tuesday 12th December 2017 at The Three Salmons Hotel, Bridge Street, Usk, NP15 1RY. Representatives from Monmouthshire County Council and WWU (Gas) will be at the public meeting to answer any questions that anyone may wish to ask. Site plans of the works will also be available at the meeting for anyone wishing to view them. All local residents will shortly be receiving letters detailing the works, and inviting them to the public information meeting.
The scheme is to replace the old aging metal pipework with new modern plastic pipework to improve the gas delivery quality. There has also been history of mains burst which will now be eliminated as a result of these works being carried out.The length of the new mains is about 6.6 kilometres long from Usk to Little Mill on the A472 and estimated at approximately £1.0 million.Commencement date is January 2018, and is due to take about 9 months. This duration is dependent on everything going to plan, and not hitting any major problems. Road closures are planned and some delays are therefore inevitable, but access to blue light services will be maintained at all times. Our Traffic Section will be dealing with the road closure applications from Wales and the West Utilities (WWU). The actual works programme will be released to the wider public via Monmouthshire County Council’s Weekly Road Works Report (WRWR) on a weekly basis.

Elections were held in May 2017 for both Monmouthshire County Council and Community Councils in the County. All County Council seats were contested. Nine nominations were received for election to Llanbadoc Community Council for the ten seats, therefore all nominees were elected without contest. The new council therefore is:

Hilary Jones; John Wright; Peter Clarke; Mark Reardon; Steve Waring; James Lawrence; Jenny Carpenter; Jo Storey; Peter Sutherland.

Former Councillor Laura Jones did not seek nomination for re-election to the Community Council. She served throughout the past 5 year term on the council, and her contribution to the work of the Council is gratefully acknowledged.

Long-standing County Councillor Val Smith retained the Llanbadoc seat, and will represent Llanbadoc as an independent.
